This evening Apple released a firmware update for the SuperDrives in MacBooks. The description of the update was:
This update addresses noise made by the optical disk drive during wake from sleep on your Mac.
i’m hoping this update does more than that. My MacBook sometimes won’t restart and I have to take out the battery and do the power button reset (hold the power button with the battery removed for 5 seconds) to get it to start again. The thing that’s odd is when I turn on the power, the SuperDrive makes a little noise and then nothing else happens. The screen doesn’t even come on and it never gets to the point where a boot keyboard shortcut would even be detected.
So I’m hoping this update solves that problem. Since it’s intermittent, I’ll have to wait a while before I know.
